Liverpool vice-captain Andrew Robertson said in a recent interview that he and his teammates may never get over the blow of Diogo Jota's death.

In July this year, Jota, who was only 28 years old, and his brother died in a car accident. This tragedy shocked the entire Liverpool team and made the team rethink the meaning of life and football.

Mentioning Jota's death in the interview, Robertson said emotionally: "When something like this happens, I think no one cares about football anymore. It's a huge shock."

"Firstly, it's devastating for Jota's family, but also for us as a group of lads. It makes you realise what's really important in life, being with your family, being with your kids, because you never know what tomorrow is going to bring."

Robertson revealed that before Jota's death, he had decided to stay at Anfield, even if his starting position was no longer secure. He stressed that as a senior player in the team, he had the responsibility to take on more in difficult times.

He added: "Losing one of my closest friends has been incredibly difficult for me and it's something we may never get over. But we must carry on with our memories and as long as we do, he will always be with us and in our hearts."

"The last few months have been extremely difficult for the team, including moments like playing in front of fans for the first time and attending a teammate's funeral. It's hard to put it into words, but we have to take our responsibility to help the club and Jota's family."

"The pain will not go away easily, but with the passage of time, perhaps it will be slightly alleviated. As leaders, we must guide everyone through this and let Jota's memory and spirit continue to be with us."
